Active mobility corridor construction under way along Valley Road in Hout Bay
24 February 2025
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise members of the public of intended roadworks on Valley Road and Westerford Way, up to the intersection of Park Avenue and Avenue de Chavonnes in Hout Bay. The work is planned to take place from today, 24 February 2025, until Friday, 11 April 2025, between 08:00 and 16:30, Monday to Friday. When required, work will be done on weekends between 09:00 and 15:30.
‘The purpose of this project is to construct a footpath along Valley Road between Westerford Way and the intersection of Park, Avenue De Chavonnes and Valley Road. This will include the installation of new stormwater channels, barrier kerbing and edging. Valley Road is a popular route used by pedestrians, however, the existing verge at Valley Road is not suitable for both pedestrians and vehicles, making these upgrades a priority to enhance the safety and accessibility for the community.
‘This is a continuation and extension of our Valley Road active mobility corridor, which was designed and paid for by Ward Allocation. After many years of calls for a safe track for walkers, prams, wheelchairs, bikes and horses, I am delighted to see the progress of this year-on-year Ward project,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
Additional work includes the installation of a stormwater channel that will direct water towards the existing stormwater infrastructure in Valley Road.

The City’s Urban Mobility directorate would like to thank road users for their patience during the course of this infrastructure-led project to improve the road network and enable economic growth.
